FAQs

Q?

I still have more questions even after reading this whole list, what do I do?

A.

Contact us! We are real and we don't bite. We will be happy to talk on the phone, text, email or morse code.

Q?

How do I stay up to date about the league?

A.

Follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pintrest

Q?

What’s the deadline to sign up?

A.

The deadline to sign up is February 28th, 2017. This gives teams a chance to organize and start training together.

Q?

What if I sign up to participate but then I can’t. Or I try racing but don’t like it – can I get a refund?

A.

Refunds are available up to 4/15/16. There are no refunds after that.

Q?

When and where are the races going to be held?

A.

Races will be held on four Saturdays during the spring. Race dates and locations can be found on our the Races page

Q?

When will practices start? Where and how often will they be held?

A.

Practices will start as soon as winter and mud season allow us to get out on the trails. Usually early March. Actual practice dates, times and locations will be determined by your coach.

Q?

I really want to join a team but I already have a spring sport. Can I still participate?

A.

Where there’s a will, there’s a way. So long as you, your parents and the coach agree on how many practices and races you’ll be attending, you’re good to go.

Q?

I don’t know how to mountain bike but I’d like to learn. Can I still join? What if I don’t even have a bike?

A.

Yes, please join! Several bike shops will be making bikes available to rent for the season so you can try it out. As part of a NEHSCA team, you’ll receive skills lessons from your coach and plenty of opportunity to practice. For you and others like you who are just getting into it, we are all about having fun while you learn to love riding in the dirt.

Q?

Will there be experienced racers in the league so there’s good competition for kids like me who’ve raced before?

A.

Absolutely. Not only do we want experienced racers to come have a blast racing against other students in the area, we want you to show the kids who are just getting into it how it’s done. On the flip side, we have plenty of people who have never raced before.

Q?

Are there separate races for kids with different skill and speed abilities?

A.

Yes, we have separate categories based on age and gender.

Grades 5, 6, and 7

Grades 7, 8, and 9

Junior Varsity

Varsity

Q?

Are the teams co-ed?

A.

Yes, teams are open to both boys and girls. We do not separate teams by gender.
To be honest most of the girls are as fast if not faster then the boys (but we don't tell the boys that!)

Q?

Do girls and boys race together? Do they compete against each other?

A.

Girls and boys race simultaneously, but they do not compete against one another. Girls compete against girls, and boys compete against boys. However, boys’ and girls’ points are combined for each team’s overall race day score.

Q?

Do teams have to be co-ed?

A.

No, teams are not required to be co-ed. However, team points are award based on the four highest scores and at least one of them has to be a boy or girl.

Q?

What if I want to race but my school doesn’t have a team?

A.

No worries! Most of the teams  are district teams that are a combination of many towns. We have adults who have volunteered to coach, and we’ll be matching them up with kids who want to race. Check out the Teams page to find the closest team to you.
